Tomorrow marks the release of The Island Deception, book #2 in my Gateways to Alissia series with Harper Voyager. I’ve begged, borrowed, and bartered far more than I should have to bring you a week of online awesomeness to celebrate.
Eating Authors and Insecure Writers
Yes, I’m aware of how that headline reads. We kick off this week with two guest posts at venues where I’ve never appeared. Lawrence Schoen, also known as Klingon Guy and author of the Nebula-nominated novel Barsk, invited me to come talk about my favorite meal for his EATING AUTHORS series. I share some recent escapades in Paris that involve late-night train rides and less-than-fluent French.
I also have an interview over at Insecure Writers Support Group, thanks to founder Alex J. Cavanaugh. This is a fantastic community of more than 4,000 writers, many of whom I count as friends. I’m so delighted to be stopping by.
Tuesday on Terribleminds
Tomorrow, I’m scheduled to have my second FIVE THINGS post over at Chuck Wendig’s Terribleminds. My goal in writing that post was three-fold:
- Make it entertaining (for the legions of readers)
- Dial up the irreverence (because it’s Chuck Wendig)
- Not openly fangirl (again, because it’s Chuck Wendig)
Please drop by and leave me a comment once the post goes up! You should be reading Chuck’s blog anyway. It’s awesome.
Back to Beyond the Trope
Also on Tuesday, I make another appearance with Giles, Michelle, and Emer on the Beyond the Trope podcast. I’ve been listening to their geek-fun podcast for years. As I told them before we started recording, this has the weird effect of making me feel like I’ve known them personally for just that long and that we’re close friends. Meanwhile, they hear from me about once a year.
But hey, I try and fit as much as I can into our conversations to make up for it. Go give it a listen.
Ask Me Something. Anything! Please?
Reddit Fantasy is the most active and engaged community forums for fantasy literature that I’ve ever come across. Even now at ten minutes past midnight, over 700 people are active on the site. It’s a wonderful place for fantasy authors to engage with their fans, and for up-and-comers like myself to maybe find a few new ones.
On Tuesday I’ll be doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything), answering any and all questions from the Reddit Fantasy community. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not Patrick Rothfuss, so I don’t have legions of curious fans waiting for such an opportunity. So please come by and ask me a question or two! Otherwise it’ll be crickets out there, and that benefits no one.
Qwillery Post and My Favorite Bit
I wrote a guest post about how portal fantasy is not dead, and the good folks at the Qwillery have decided to run it. They’re incredibly supportive of me and other Harper Voyager Impulse authors, which I really appreciate. ETA: The post is up! Many thanks to the Qwillery for running it!
A week from tomorrow, I’ll return to Mary Robinette Kowal’s blog for another post in her My Favorite Bit series. I’m very excited to get to work for her again, as she’s one of my favorite authors.
Reviews, Blurbs, and Terror
A number of advance readers have promised to post reviews this week, which has me one part thrilled and one part terrified. See my book page for The Island Deception for an up-to-date list of reviews, appearances, and media coverage. Thank you for your support!
